Sunday evening last saw the young ladies of Caherdavin’s Frontline Stage School take to the bright lights of the Lime Tree theatre for the annual Gala Performance.
Frontline Stage School was founded and continues to be led by Gerdi McGlynn. 32 Years ago, Gerdi set upon starting a stage school from humble beginnings with husband Ger on Elm Drive in Caherdavin.
Over the years the stage school has grown greater and greater and now as a ‘Trio of Talent’ Gerdi is joined by daughters Jean and Pam, and going on last night’s performance ‘Baby Peigi’ will soon drive this ‘three generation’ performance stage school well into the future of Limericks great tradition of song, dance and musicals.
Gerdi love of the stage was born in the musical Nagle family and while working in the bank she took to the stage in the memorable John Players Tops of the Town in the 1970’s and 80’s and once she tripped the light fantastic with the ever talented McGlynn family a star was born.
Front Line Stage School is for children who want to develop their performing skills, but the curriculum also aims to develop confidence, teamwork and responsibility – giving the children ownership of their work.
All the children get their chance to appear in the front line at some point during our gala performances, giving them that moment to shine.
The children explore a range of dance styles including musical theatre, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary. Drama will cover improvisation, characterisation, team building and script work.
In singing the children will have the opportunity to experience rhythm, pitching, breathing and harmony work through a range of musical styles. A gala performance is held annually in The Lime Tree Theatre. All the children are encouraged to take part and all students appear at least twice in our shows. As the name states – every child gets the opportunity to take their place in the front line giving them that moment to shine. These shows are a big hit with our students who thrive on the excitement as the curtain is rising.
As well as Caherdavin, Frontline Stage school offers dance, singing, drama and acting classes to Children in Adare, Castletroy, Raheen and East Clare.
Sunday evenings fantastic performance at the Lime Tree theatre saw the young ladies of Caherdavin and surrounding areas shine, where talent and confidence radiated from the stage, and backstage many former students are always jumping to volunteer to dress and prepare the children for performance.
The importance of Frontline Stage School to the communities we all live in can be seen and measured by the smiles of the children’s faces at the curtain call. Here’s to another 32 years Gerdi….Break a leg!
