PLANNED works for Limerick Tunnel have been cancelled due to adverse weather forecasts, its operator has confirmed.
The planned works for this Monday night, which would have meant a single lane each way, contra-flow traffic operation in the tunnel overnight, are now postponed to next week, commencing February 19.
Met Eireann has issued a weather warning for Limerick with a risk of thundery downpours and strong gusts possible.
A spokesperson said: "Please note that due to wind weather warning in place for tonight, and adverse weather forecasts for the remained of the week, the planned Limerick Tunnel works for tonight are now postponed to next week, Monday, February 19."
Works will now take place from February 19 to 22, from 7.30pm to 6am each night, with contra-flow traffic operations in effect.
"Due to the traffic management required, we request that no abnormal load permits be approved for transit through the tunnel during the affected periods," the spokesperson added.
