Over 6,000 people took to the streets of Limerick last Sunday for the inaugural Great Limerick Run.
The Great Limerick Run was the first event of its kind to incorporate a Full Certified Marathon, a Half Marathon and a 10k run into one day.
Runners from 14 countries took part in the event with George Waugh from Bandon, Co Cork winning the men’s race and Liz Hussey, Castletroy winning the Ladies equivalent.
The route of the marathon took the runners past locations such as the People’s Park, Georgian Limerick, Thomond Park, King John’s Castle, the University of Limerick and the River Shannon.
Martin Tynan, Event Organiser, thanked all those who have helped the event come to fruition.
“The weather was kind to us and we had almost 6,200 participants take part and thousands more lined the streets to support their friends and family, so we are more than delighted with the way things have gone.”
