THE Rubberbandits are in line to take home an IFTA award at next Saturday’s glitzy award ceremony in Dublin, with the Limerick plastic-bag wearing duo shortlisted for the RTÉ Guide ‘Best TV Moment of 2010’ for the television premiere of ‘Horse Outside’.
The video, the biggest internet hit this country has ever seen, currently has just under 6 million hits on You Tube, but a spokesperson for the ‘Bandits said they hadn’t campaigned for votes for the IFTA award due to the presence of a tribute to the late Mick Lally also on the shortlist, who they called “one the finest Irish actors of the last 40 years”.
The duo are currently on tour around Ireland with sold out shows in Belfast and Dublin’s Tripod, and are set to go on a US tour “in the first half of 2011”.
The ‘Bandits are also set to release a brand new single and video at the end of February, but with shooting set to wrap up this weekend, the duo were remaining tight-lipped about which song would be released.
A new website is being launched this weekend, while previous internet hit ‘Bag of Glue’ also hit a million views on You Tube this week.
They return to Dolan’s Warehouse on March 4.
