The Limerick City Council Arts Office in association with the
WhiteHousePoets will host a series of Masterclass/Workshops commencing on
Saturday the 16th October at the Georgian House and Gardens, Pery Square as
part of Cuisle - Limerick's International Poetry Festival.
The Workshops will be facilated by Galway poet Kevin Higgins who is
currently running a poetry workshop at the Galway Arts Centre. Those
wishing to attend are invited to submit a minimum of three poems which can
be used as practical material for the workshops. Over the six week period
various aspects of poetry will be covered, how to craft a poem including
subject, style and metre will be examined and participants will be invited
to share their own written poetry.
The cost of the Masterclass on the 16th October is €15 and for those
wishing to continue on for the six weeks the cost is €35 payable on date of
commencement. Send your poems together with contact details to the

KEVIN HIGGINS was born in London of Irish parents in April 1967, but grew
up in Galway on the west coast of Ireland.
He began writing poetry in 1996 and since then his work has appeared widely
in Ireland, Britain, Belgium, New Zealand, Canada and the United States in
publications such as Metre, The Shop, Orbis, The Sunday Tribune, Poetry
Ireland Review, Connections, The Frogmore Papers, The Interpreter's House,
Potpourri (USA), River King Poetry Supplement (USA), The Reater, The
Stinging Fly and www.nthposition.com. His first collection 'The Boy With No
Face' will be published in January 2005, and is to be Salmon Poetry's first
book of 2005.
In 2000 Kevin was chosen to take part in the Poetry Ireland Introductions
series of readings. Kevin has also read his poetry at the Cuirt
International Festival of Literature, The Bowery Poetry Club (New York
City) and The Poetry Society (London). In June 2002 he was a finalist in
the Dublin Writers' Festival/Rattlebag Poetry Slam. His work has also been
broadcast on RTE's Rattlebag and Sunday Miscellany as well as on local
radio.
Kevin is also a widely published critic. He regularly reviews poetry for
The Galway Advertiser and has also reviewed poetry for Metre, Poetry
Quarterly Review (UK), Arts West magazine and New Hope International
Review.
Kevin was founding co-editor of The Burning Bush literary magazine (March
1999-October 2000). In 2000 he was Consulting Editor of the From Our Roots
collection of writing from Galway Senior Writers and in 2001 he edited
their Reflections At Sunset anthology. He is an experienced poetry workshop
facilitator.
