History was made in Shanagolden recently when Tom Madigan, nephew of the late Captain Tim, turned the first sod in a project to commemorate his uncle.
This project is a two dimensional venture in the ten acre park, the building of a sports centre with changing rooms, toilets etc. and the development of a walkway around the perimeter of the sports field. Present also on the evening was Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council John Sheahan and from West Limerick Resources Shay Riordan and Eleanor McLoughlin, who are providing 75% of the total funding for the project.
